Dear John,
As an ex villager I very often visit the Church Eaton web site to find out all the gossip etc and I have often tried to find a visitors page to write comments etc. I am sure that there are quite a few people like myself who were brought up in the village but have moved away who visit your website and would like to leave comments so please will you consider including a visitors page on your website. I often visit the village to take flowers to my parents graves and my Auntie Nancy and Uncle Charlie Getley still live in the village. I was born in the village and attended the school and have very many happy memories of live in Church Eaton and my family have lived in Church Eaton for generations. Saint Editha's is where I was christened, confirmed, married and my children were also christened there and as I mentioned earlier my parents are buried there.

By the way I love the site it is very informative and well done it is such a great idea keep it up.
Best Wishes
Irene Barnes (nee Timmis0

I found your website whilst researching my family history. My great great grandfather was born in Church Eaton in 1836 and his family before him lived in either Church Eaton or Wood Eaton from the late 1700s. Their name was Busby and they were farmers - I've found their names in the directories kept on your website. Perhaps there are some graves in the churchyard? My great great grandfather was apprenticed to a baker in Stafford in the 1851 census but then moved to Stoke on Trent to work in the potteries. I found your site on Google and I congratulate you on it - its a fantastic site and a real feel of community about it.
I would love to visit Church Eaton just to see where this branch of my family came from, but if anyone in your history group has any information they think might be of interest, please get in touch - my email is hazel-nut@ntlworld.com. I wonder if there are still Busbys in the area? They may be distant relations!!!

As a floating resident of the canal I occasionally visit the village. My passion for walking takes me around many diffirent villages. However pretty the villages may be, it is always difficult to find out what goes on within the local vicinity. This website has been a useful tool. kind reguards.

Dear Mr Edwards,

I obtained your e-mail address from the Church Eaton web site. I am carrying out a family search, and I have found some of my ancesters who lived in Church Eaton at the time of the 1881 Census. They are recorded as living on Church Eaton Green and one of my ancesters William Richards, was the head of the household, is also recorded as being born in Church Eaton in approximately 1825. He was married to Rose Richards, my Great Great Grandmother, and in 1881 they had five children. Rose Richards had re-married by 1891, and I am assuming that William Richards had died by then. I am very keen to trace as much as possible about them. For instance, it is possible that they were married at the church in Church Eaton, and I would very much like to find if there are any records of this, or perhaps any records of the death of William Richards.
I would be extremely grateful if you could advise me where I could visit, or who I could contact, to find out if there are any parish records which relate to my ancesters.
Thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide.

Best regards,

John Gibbs

Thank you for any help,

Hi
I am John from Wigan trying to trace my wife's family. They originated in "Coley Hall" 1841 Census Elizabeth Fox resided there born 1775. Her son Thomas and his wife Susannah (nee Pearce) then lived in either "Coley Hall or Coley Farm until about 1861 (Listed on Census).

Coley spelling is from the Census forms. Could be Cowley O/S spelling. The full address for the Farm is Coley Farm, Outwood, Gnosall. Parish: Gnosall Ecclesiastical District: Morton. Coley Hall is just Gnosall. Thomas had 9 children we know of Elizabeth, William, Susanna, Mary Ann, Thomas, Jane, Eliza, George and Sarah Sophia.

We have followed Elizabeth who had an illegitimate son (William Fox) by William Medins, She then married John Skirritt Williams a year later. We followed William who had several names, Fox Medins, Medins Fox and Williams. Strange thing is all his children's births were registered as either Fox Medins, Medins Fox or just Fox. William appears on all birth or marriage certificates as William Fox on all census except 1911 as William Williams. Any help would be appreciated.

I was born in the village and am now 62 years old.
My grandfather Charles Fowler lived in Rose Cottage.
I worked with him as a lad, he was a smallholder but did many jobs around the village and on the farms.
We we're up at Joan Eaton's cross one day cleaning out the ditch. He said there was a stone cross in the bank of the ditch and showed me the spot. It would seem a shame that the cross should lie there and I've always thought it should be re-erected , I'm happy to share this information with anyone truly interested in placing back in it's proper place and not in their garden.

I am looking for information on Grace poole, my second cousin twice removed. She ran the village school for some years I believe. I want to know who her parents were. i do not know which side of my family tree of James, Batkin, Millington ? ? she belongs to.Or if she was related to any other families in Church eaton apart from Molly Millington, my grandmother, who also attended the school. I want to fit her into my family tree.

Last year I posted a genealogy comment. i have had no feedback. i am sure there must be people in the village who remember or know about my cousin Grace Poole, who taught at the school.
I visited the school in 2004 and although the present staff had heard of her of course, they did not know of her background.
You may contact me on my email address;
ermar@clear.net.nz
I would be very grateful for any kind of information.

Very interesting to read the comments. I am descended from the Busby family of Church Eaton with earlier links around Ellenhall, Ranton and possibly Gnosall. (Thomas Busby born 1831 and moved to Stoke on Trent). It would be interesting to come and visit the area sometime.
