Recreation

The "Goalposts" Blog has been closed, now that the goal-wall is in place. That blog was very important in giving villagers a forum to comment and put forward their ideas. With 85 posts and some 40 people involved it was very successful, however things move on and this Blog is for other aspects of Recreation in the village. The Recreational Society, which has developed from the Goalposts campaign, wants to look at the wider picture, not just football for teenagers.

If you have any input into this development please add your comments here for all to read. We have shown that “village power” works, so let’s make it work some more. If you think allotments, a bowling green, a climbing wall, guided walks, a skateboard park, a Bridge club or anything else would benefit recreation in Church Eaton let us hear about it.

hi all,
just thought i would say a big thankyou to John Edwards for organising the goalpost blog which allowed us all to air all the different views we had about the goalposts and where they should or shouldn't have gone in the village.
Most people in the village agreed on the ideal place for the posts including the teens but it wasn't to be.The teens also decided they wanted a ballwall instead of posts and so with help from the parish council who allowed us to install the new equipment in the park we managed to reach our goal.A big thankyou to the Parish Council aswell .Most thanks must go to the villagers who supported the campaign and helped us raise over £2000 and showed that different parts of the village can work together and that differences can be put aside for the common good of the village
We now have the recreational society which has been formed by some people from the old goalpost campaign and some people from the village who had no connection with the original campaign. We hope this will bring young and old together in the near future from a nuetral perspective.
With the parish council permission we hope to carry on improving the park for all age groups at the same time.
We can only try and bring people together and i'm sure there will be objections along the way,but it is better to try and fail than not to try at all.
So any ideas from any villagers or offers of help or donations are always welcome.
Thanks everyone, your backing made a difference last time and it can do the same again.

All the best

I really like the Idea of a climbing wall. Could it be used by adults too ? The more available options for physical activities the better. Have we considered other areas out lying on the village fringes. The field on the right going out towards Gnosall next to the footpath track would be suitable.

If you have an idea which would bennifit the community, then this is just one window of oppotunity to communicate those ideas. It could be an event or something of pernament standing. 'Nothing ventured, nothing gainned'

Hi everyone we need to get some blog activity going here.

You may have heard that Church Eaton Recreational Society(the old band of villains from the goalpost campaign) are trying to get a project off the ground to get some outdoor exercise equipment installed in the play park. Well to date, everyone we have spoken to has been enormously supportive of the idea, so we have decided to take this a step further to make it happen. In order to do this, we will be applying for some funding from the National Lottery Community Funds.

This is where the blog comes in, we need to present evidence that the project has widespread support in the community.

The following url provides a brief overview of what we are proposing, take a look... (paste the url into your browser)

http://81.149.20.91/FitnessForAll/

and then tell us if:

a) You think it is a good idea
b) The proposed facilities will benefit the village
c) You will use them
d) Other members of your family will use them

We need to get some brisk blogging activity here so please spread the word to get everyone on the blog.

If you want some more detail/pictures of the equipment, let me know and I will add some more.

Cheers Phil.

Hello all,
Speaking as a mum in the village, I think the message the new equipment would send to our youngsters could only be a positive one. If we want them to be fit and healthy, it is great if we give them the opportunity to exercise, and to see adults exercising too. I can only see a downside in the politics of it all in this day and age - responsibility for age limits, accidents, injuries, etc. but these are all probably surmountable. I support it whole heartedly. Well done everyone involved.

For any Facebookers out there, there is also a Facebook group.

Church Eaton Needs Some Outdoor Exercise Equipment

Jimmy said...

I would really like to see outdoor exercise equipment installed at the park. Being a Lorry driver its important that I get as much opportunity as possible to exercise between shifts. With an average working week of 55 hours it is impossible to get myself to a gym as well as fitting in football coaching at the weekend, fulfilling my role as a family member and having some down time.

Having the equipment installed means I can easily access exercise equipment. I once enjoyed the benefits of being super fit, now due to a change in my working life it has become increasingly difficult to maintain a decent level of fitness.

The Idea of installing the equipment on the park would help me spend more time with my younger family, I would be able to train whilst supervising my step daughter of eight. Its is a golden opportunity not to be missed.

I do run several miles on the odd occasion as well as coaching an under 15's football team. I used to have access to a gym. I'm not at this present time getting the exercise I need and I feel I'm suffering as a result. There is a need for a differential range of exercise equipment to target different parts of the body.

Having seen the equipment in question, I believe it is the best kit available to the community as a whole. I have knowledge of what does what, the kit would bring a whole lot of good and be suitable for everybody's use. I can also see the potential for people with disabilities to gain from the equipment. The great thing about it, is that is low impact. If I am carrying an injury from running or football, then I could carry on training and rehabilitate my injury through the use of outdoor exercise equipment. I would definitely use the equipment.

Hi, Having seen the presentation with regards the outdoor exercise equipment it can only be a good thing to have more facilities of this nature available to villagers and visitors alike.

Our children have grown up with a positive attitude towards exercise and the proposal to install this facility will only enhance their motivation and subsequent enjoyment (as well as their parents!).

A superb idea.

Great idea to install equipment for adults to keep fit. While the toddlers are enjoying there swings and the teens are enjoying there ballwall and hopefully there basketball hoop in the park they can also keep fit along side mum or dad if they choose on the keep-fit equipment.Nice to see a community that gives it's locals a choice of activities for all ages.
This also brings all the different groups of the village together for a common cause.
Good work from C.E.R.S bringing everyone together.

Hello Fellow Villagers

Having just come back from our first village walk, I would like to thank the organisers. Most of us walk around our village, but in fresh company - around 20 of us plus dogs - along a path I had not used before, it brought a sense of community and some new knowledge of Church Eaton, with the bonus of good company and a chip butty to celebrate the glorious weather.

Thanks to all who came.

Having heard about the 'adult - sized' play equipment proposed for the playpark, I think its a great idea. No more sitting & slobbing out whilst the kids have all the exercise, lets get on down and join in!

The village walk was both enjoyable and good exercise. All credit to Jimmy for arranging and leading it. It was great to have an event that catered for such a wide age range, (human and canine).
Maybe once a month would help keep us pensioners active. However, the chip butties and beer probably replenished any calories we may have used en-route.

On a separate matter: Blog entries listed as "Anonymous" are not much use to prove the support of villagers for recreation activities. Please put your name on your contribution, or e-mail me if you want to add it later

Walk was thoroughly enjoyable - pity more of the families of the village didn't join us!

If we want this exercise equipment for the village we have to support all events!

Come on guys we've done it for the ball wall - lets go the whole hog and get something more going!!

PLEASE CLICK THE NAME/URL BUTTON AND FILL IN YOUR NAME WHEN ADDING A COMMENT TO MAKE YOUR IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION USEFUL TO C.E.R.S.

FOR THE "GOALPOSTS" BLOG WE COULD SHOW THAT OVER 40 PEOPLE OF ALL AGES SUPPORTED THE CAMPAIGN.

ALL ANONYMOUS COMMENTS WERE IGNORED, AS THEY COULD ALL HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY ONE PERSON. (Fictional names are counterproductive not clever!)

Hi guys thanks to everyone for posting comments on the exercise equipment. We still need some more activity on the blog. Please badger everyone in the village to post a comment. I have also created a group on Facebook (Church Eaton Needs Some Outdoor Exercise Equipment) so it would be great if you could join that too.

Marty how about getting the kids from the Youth club to get posting?

I would also like to express my thanks to Jimmy, the walk on Sunday was great fun. Chloe (the dog) and me can't wait for the next one.

Hi All

Sorry to be late adding my comments. As a resident since 1972 I believe this may be the first family walk ever organized in all those years, so congratulations to CERS and particularly Jimmy for planning it. Trish and I really enjoyed it, as did the dog! I am sure we must all support any efforts to promote healthy exercise and adult exercise equipment would be a fun addition to the Playpark and one I am sure would be supported by the Parish Council - who would also, probably, cover the insurance costs.

Something done many years ago was to organise a weekly Family Keep Fit session during the summer months. This was led by a qualified Instructor and proved great fun, even though the sessions were followed by an optional 2 mile run/jog/tone down! Might CERS care to look at repeating something of the same?

Great idea for the adults to keepfit while the teens and tots are using there play equipment in the park at the same time. It's also nice to see different groups in the village coming together to support an idea that will benifit every member of the village no matter how young or old they might be or which group they represent in the village. As one of the youthclub leaders i fully support this idea. Great work from everyone at CERS and a big thankyou to Jimmy for all is work in the village community.

As my normal exercise regime consists of a short walk to the pub followed by a short walk home, the proposed equipment may well enable me to shed a little avoirdupois. I'm all in favour of something which will encourage me and others to take exercise in a friendly environment.
